Point Wilson is a low basalt point that protrudes south into Port Phillip Bay and forms the northern entrance to Corio Bay. The point is backed by the Commonwealth Explosives Department and is off limits to the public.Between the Sand Hummocks and the point is a 2.5 km section of east facing coast, composed of low, sandy, beach ridges and narrow beach. The beaches are fronted by seagrass meadows. The 2.5 km long Point Wilson jetty separates the two, with the 500 m long eastern beach terminating at the point.

Swimming

These are two narrow beaches, with narrow sand flats and relatively deep, seagrass covered sand off the beaches. However, the public is prohibited from landing in this explosives area.

Fishing

The seagrass beds are popular areas for catching whiting.

Two low energy beaches fronted by seagrass flats, but backed by Australia's largest explosive depot.
