Black Rock is a low basalt point, one of four such points between here and Noble Rocks 3 km to the south-west. The Torquay Road takes a right hand turn at the end of Thirteenth Beach, to bypass the Geelong Sewer Works, the effluent from which is discharged at Black Rock. The beach itself is a narrow strip of sand, bordered and fronted by basalt rocks and boulders. Waves break over the boulders and only reach the beach at high tide.

Swimming

A polluted and hazardous beach with a rock dominated surf. Should be avoided.

Surfing

There is none on the beach, however surfers who do not mind the smell, surf the appropriately named Turd or Black Rock. This right hand break works best in a large swell.

Fishing

There are plenty of nutrients in the water to attract fish, and rocks to fish from.

General

The beach is off limits owing to the sewer outlet.
