The main Stokes Bay beach (KI-184) is a 500 m long, north facing sand beach bordered and backed by 20 to 50 m high, steep, vegetated bedrock bluffs. The beach receives waves averaging just over 1 m, which maintain a 100 m wide surf zone that usually has one central beach rip, with permanent rips to either end. In addition there is a natural rock-fringed tidal pool at the western end (Fig. 5.33).
