Woolgoolga Beach (NSW 90) curves south of the foreland for 1.7 km to the prominent 50 m high Woolgoolga Headland, which extends 1 km seaward (Fig. 4.47). Woolgoolga shopping centre lies adjacent to the southern end, together with a caravan park and other facilities including the Woolgoolga SLSC, which was established in 1933. Between the surf club and the headland is a grassy picnic area surrounded by car parking. A road runs behind the beach to a northern caravan park adjacent to the usually blocked mouth of Woolgoolga Lake, which drains Woolgoolga Creek. The beach is partly sheltered by the headland and reef, which together with fine beach sand maintains a continuous low gradient beach and attached bar in lee of the reef with up to five rips along the more exposed northern section. The very southern end in front of the surf club usually has a continuous bar, with a permanent rip running out against the headland, particularly during summer northeasterlies. These conditions contribute to the average of 18 rescues each year.
Beach Length: 1.7km
